Upcoming Confirmation service from Bishop David
St Mark’s are looking forward to welcoming the Rt Revd David Williams, Bishop of Basingstoke, who will be leading a confirmation service on Sunday 28th April at 3pm. Interested in finding out more about baptism or confirmation? Do please speak with any of our worship leaders, and feel welcome to come along to either of our daytime or evening Pilgrim courses!
Smile – you’re on CCTV!
St Mark’s now has CCTV installed, over key areas of the church grounds, as a deterrent to the sadly increasing levels of vandalism we’ve received.
In January we are starting the Pilgrim Course. All are welcome to join us as we explore together the Christian faith, whether you are completely new to this or have been part of church for a long time. We are running the course at two different times of day – one in the afternoons, to be finished in time for school pick up, and one in the evenings. Join us whenever is most convenient for you.
Daytime sessions will be led by our associate priest, Anne Elliott (07533 552540) and held in the St Mark’s room within church, from 1:45pm to 2:45pm on the 30th January, 6th February, 13th February, 27th February, 6th March and 13th March.
Evening sessions will led by our priest in charge, Rachel Noël (01590 462022) and held in the vicarage (29 Ramley Road) from 7:30pm to 8:30pm – continuing on the 30th January, 6th February and 27th February.
It starts at the very beginning
- Pilgrim assumes very little understanding or knowledge of the Christian faith.
It focuses on Jesus Christ
- Pilgrim aims to equip people to follow Jesus Christ as disciples in the whole of their lives.
It flows from the Scriptures
- The primary focus of each session is a group of people engaging with the Bible together.
It draws deeply from the Christian tradition
- In the Early Church, the Christian faith was taught by the transmission of key texts which summed up the heart of the Christian message. Pilgrim restores this approach for the twenty-first century.
It honours the Anglican way and its many streams
- Pilgrim has been developed as a specifically Anglican resource which aims to cater for every tradition in the Church of England.
Morning Praise is moving
At our recent PCC we’ve agreed to change the rhythm from January, so that morning praise is on a different Sunday in the month to evensong. From January, Morning Praise moves to the fourth Sunday of the month.
Roland Stott’s Funeral
The funeral service is to take place at Test Valley Crematorium, Romsey on Monday 4th February at 11:30am. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Mark’s Church, Pennington with the ashes interment taking place in the Churchyard, later in the year – possibly in the Spring.
Open The Book
the expert’s advice on how to do it! The Art of Storytelling with Bob Hartman, at Bursledon on Saturday 9th March; see poster in church porch for more details.
Moving on from bronze!
Come along and hear more from Gordon Randall, our Diocesan Stewardship Advisor, on how together we can achieve our Silver EcoChurch award. Having attained the Bronze level, changes in our lifestyles at home and in our community will take us to Silver, as we care for God’s creation and our environment around us. Come and be inspired! 9.30 am service, Sunday 10 February. Save the date!
