Samaritans Purse Shoeboxes

If you would like a shoebox to fill for needy children this Christmas, they are available from Shirley Saunders. There will also be a box at the back of church for donations of goods, if you would prefer.

A need for plastic bottles!

Can you help? We’re collecting empty plastic bottles – ideally drinks bottles 500ml, 1l, 2l, for making poppies with the local schools. A box to donate your unused plastic bottles is available in the porch.

The future of our parish

Do you care about the future of our church and parish? Would you like to help shape the direction of our community? We will soon be starting our next cycle of parish mission action planning. There is a Diocesan launch event at Colbury on Tuesday 9th October at 7pm. Would you like to be part of our working group to help take this forward in our community? Please speak with Rachel Noël – in church or on 01590 462022.

Community Churchyard Clean

Pennington residents and church congregation are invited to help with an annual clean and tidy of the churchyard, in time for our annual rememberance Sunday service. All welcome from 10am on the 20th October!

We will be working in various parts of the churchyard with tasks ranging from strimming, edging, pruning, attending to graves and so forth.  We recommend that you wear suitably protective clothing.  We will supply tools – but if you want to bring your own, please feel free to do so (if you are bringing your own tools, you will be responsible for these).  We will have access to St. Mark’s Room where drinks and snacks will be available.

Children’s Society boxes

If you can help through 2019 towards this worthy charity, please do collect your new box from the back of church and please add your name to the list of box holders. Thank you for your generosity and continued support.

An invitation to All Souls

Every year the Church remembers those we love who have died. The traditional name for this time is “All Souls”. At St. Mark we hold a special service to remember those who have died, especially those who have died in the last few years. This year the service will be on Sunday 28th October at 3pm and will be followed by tea and refreshments to which everyone is invited.

Over the years many people have found that this service has helped them to take a further step towards the healing of their memories and emotions as we remember those who have died and whom we have commended into the care of God. We extend a warm invitation to you to attend this service. Any members of your family and friends, who would like to come to the service, including children, will be very welcome. The service includes an opportunity to remember people by name and to light a candle as a symbol of our love for them. We will also have hymns and short readings. We do hope you will be able to join us and we look forward to welcoming you: if you would like a name read out on the day, please add this to the form at the back of church.

Recycling at St Mark’s

Our recycling system for paper and bottles used in church, as well as milk bottle tops, bottle tops, batteries, tin foil, ink cartridges, used spectacles and mobile phones brought from home, continues to flourish. Thank you to all donors, and most especially to our team who faithfully deliver these items to outlets for recycling and re-use as the bins fill up.   Without the help of those people our donations could not be used, so very many thanks to all the volunteers who help us with this service.

BCM Commissioning Service

Sandy and Paul, two of our congregation, recently completed the ‘Bishops Comission for Mission’ course, allowing them to help in leading worship at St Mark’s. A commissioning service to formally ratify this is to occur on Saturday 13th October, and we’d like as many from St Mark’s to go along in support! We’re hoping to arrange a coach, and there will be a form at the back of church where those who wish to join us by coach can register their interest. We’d expect this to leave from St Mark’s Church, at approximately 9:15am to go to Winchester Cathedral – then at approximately 1:15pm from Winchester Cathedral to the Walhampton Arms pub in Lymington for lunch afterwards! We’d expect to have you back at St Mark’s by around 4pm: Sandy and Paul would love to see you there!
