New ways to give to St Mark’s?
How many of us carry cash? Not as many today as has been the case in previous years – where card and mobile contactless payments can be so convenient. St Mark’s is happy to announce that we can now accept payments for Traidcraft and donations to the work we do via debit and credit card, as well as mobile contactless methods. If you want to find our more, speak to our treasurer Teresa for further details!
Help our Hall!
Our new windows are bare, and we need your help to raise the money for blinds. St Mark’s Community Hall is a friendly, welcoming, calm environment, for use by the community. Help us to make this space even better, with blinds at the windows: you can donate through our Just Giving campaign at:
…or alternatively, please speak to Teresa Nivison for further details. If you want to book the hall for your event, check out:
Join the Events Committee?
Our events committee work hard to bring new and exciting events to St Mark’s – to help community awareness of what we do, to raise funds for our church and to offer something new to residents of Pennington and Lymington. Would you like to join and help us to make a difference? Please speak to Eve Jolly if you want to find our more!
St Nicholas Spring Concert
The St Nicholas Singers bring you a selection of “Music from Stage and Screen”. Saturday 27th April, St Johns Church, Boldre at 12:30pm. Tickets £12 including light refreshments, from Pilley Community Shop, Maxwell Hamilton or Rosie Adams on 01590 677068. All proceeds to local charities.
Thanksgiving Service for Derrick Dashwood
We will be having a Thanksgiving service in church for Derrick Dashwood at 2:30pm on Thursday 9th May, followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome to come and join us at this service as we celebrate his life and all he meant to us at St Mark’s.
Nightstop closing it’s doors?
One of our supported charities, Nightstop, is sadly having to cease operations after council funding was withdrawn from their efforts. The Ringwood-based organisation has now announced its closure after more than 16 years’ operation – during which it has helped hundreds of vulnerable people, including extra support to turn their lives around. The donations that St Mark’s have collected for Nightstop will be donated instead to “The Crossings” – a charity expanding from Hythe and into the forest. The Crossings offer a drop-in centre, supporting the homeless with food and warmth, somewhere to use the internet and offering services such as hairdressing, chiropracter and chiropody. With a new centre opening in New Milton, we’re proud to be able to help this group continue to support the hidden homeless in our rural communities. More information can be found on their website: http://www.thecrossings.org.uk
There will be no Meditation group meeting this month but we will continue as normal in May.
Temporarily we are unable to find an outlet for used mobile phones, but the better news is that we can now accept old pens/biros/felt tips for recycling. The box is with the others in the porch – do investigate this area with our updated EcoChurch notice board.
Are you after a kneeler?
We’re spring cleaning and if you would like one of our old kneelers to have at home, you are very welcome to have any of those we are removing from church. We will be keeping them around until Easter, but any that are left after that will be removed.
Easter Services at St Mark’s
As we approach Easter, St Mark’s will be hosting a number of special services and supporting churches across Lymington and Pennington too. Please join us for Compline services on Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th, all from 7pm. On Thursday 18th, we will be hosting a Maundy Thursday service at 7pm and on Friday 19th at 10am we are all welcome to join Rachel at the URC in Lymington, for their Good Friday service. At 2pm on Friday, St Mark’s will be hosting a service for the Stations of the Cross – and then celebrating Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday from 9:30am.
Could you be a Churchwarden?
If you feel you could help steer the future of St Mark’s and want to support Teresa as she helps as our churchwarden, please come to a meeting on Tuesday 16th at 7:30pm in Church to find out more!
